Personal Development

Personal Development is a classic hallmark of all trully great entrepreneuers. The fact that these successful people have several things in common is clearly pointed out in Stephen Covey's book "The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People". The one I like the most deals with expanding one's mind. You will notice that once you start to expand your mind, there is no limit on where this can take you. When I first started learning about finance and retirement and all things related, I was devouring a book a week. I couldn't read them quick enough. Consequently, I have gone back and re-read several of them to search out some of the fine details that I missed the first time around. The same way a person might watch a movie for the second time and realize that they missed a certain part or a line or whatever.

Nowadays, I still seek out information relating to financial matters and retirement but I find that I have to search deeper and wider to retrieve those golden nuggets of information that will round out my education.

I have listed here for you some of my most favorite books on these topics. Rest assured that this list is by no means complete and I encourage you to check back regularly for updates.

Personal Development can take on many forms such as

  • Physical development as in training and exercise
  • Overcoming undesirable habits or compulsions
  • Conquering personal problems such as depression or overeating
  • Smoking, alcohol or gambling cessation programs
  • Relationship building as in family, friends, or the work place
  • Dealing with frustration and anger, your own or a loved one
  • Handling a major loss, business, life, or otherwise
  • Mental development for business or pleasure

The type of personal development that we are concentrating on with this site in general and this page in particular, deals with investing in yourself, your mind, your outlook, your thoughts on getting ahead in life. How to achieve success by reaching your goals...in a nutshell, how to achieve financial freedom! Of the eight books listed above, my favorite is "The Automatic Millionaire", by David Bach. If you can only pick one, this is it.

If you get a chance to read some of the above publications, it just might turn out to be that extra push you needed to become a serious entrepreneur and join the ranks of countless others that have realized exactly what it will take to reach your goals. The inner peace and harmony that comes with being free starts by believing in yourself and your abilities. Next, you will write down your master plan with as much detail as possible. Articulate all your goals and attach a time frame to them. Where do you want to be in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years. etc. Finally, you will start to do something constructive almost daily or as often as you possibly can which will put you on the path to realize your dreams, your success, your freedom.
